Question: Can I use the program stand alone?

I would like to use it on a laptop that has router settings I cannot access readily. Is there a way to use Skirmish!VT without having to connect through a port?

Hey, for the beta there is currently no other way I'm afraid. :<

However, you could run the server on a comp which can access the router settings, then run the client from your laptop and connect it to the opened server. Only prerequisite for this is that 1. the server and client share the same account or 2. the 2 accounts you use are "friends" through the friendlist.

Btw, sorry for the late reply. It seems I have not properly clicked the comment button a few days ago.

Update: Javi is looking into ways to make connecting possible even when a port can't be opened.

We are working on a LAN only server mode: if a server cannot be published online (due to non open ports for example) instead of closing it will fallback to LAN-only mode, where clients will be able to see and connect to servers running on the same LAN (or at the very least running on the same computer)

That way, while people from the internet still won't be able to connect to your server at least you (and people in your LAN) will be able to.

Excellent. I will probably always use just the LAN only mode. :)
I'll test the other setup as well with my desktop as server and laptop as client.

You can now use Skirmish! in Lan-Mode, Mark. Enjoy! :>

Is there a way to enable Lan-mode as the default?

    Hi there!
a LAN connection is used by default if your client and your server are on the same lan.
This is, when it says online (internet) it just means that people outside your lan will be able to access as well, but any LAN clients will use a LAN connection to make sure you always get the best connection possible.
