No, a bone marrow biopsy is not used for bone marrow transplantation. While both involve bone marrow, they serve different purposes:

Bone marrow biopsy involves evaluating cellular composition for diagnosing various conditions, monitoring treatment response, and investigating low blood cell counts. The procedure, performed on the back of the hip bone under local anesthesia, collects two types of samples: liquid bone marrow aspirate for cell analysis and a core biopsy for tissue examination. Samples are then analyzed in a lab. Despite the small sample size of a few milliliters, it is adequate for diagnosis but insufficient for transplantation.

Bone marrow transplant is a life-saving donation. Collects healthy bone marrow for transplantation to replace diseased marrow. It is used in treating leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood disorders. Generally done under anesthesia with multiple aspirations from iliac crests. Larger marrow volumes are collected and processed for transplantation.

Significantly larger than a biopsy, tailored to recipient's weight. Donors must meet health criteria and might experience temporary discomfort. Peripheral blood stem cell harvests, an alternative to direct bone marrow collection, are increasingly common. Infuses collected marrow into recipient's bloodstream where stem cells create new blood cells.

Therefore a bone marrow biopsy is for diagnosis. A bone marrow harvest is for transplantation.  While a biopsy provides information about the marrow, it does not provide the volume of marrow required for a transplant. For transplants, a bone marrow harvest procedure is performed.
