Hi guys,
So while someone suggested placeable sounds in the following thread by Darkwoulfe (
https://www.skirmish-vt.com/Community#/discussion/63/placeable-sounds), I'd like to expand on it here, since I think the possibilities of the use of sound effects are far beyond just that. As always, sorry if this has already been mentioned or if I missed something, I did a quick search on the forums but didn't find anything.
As I understand it, these "placeable" sounds (as suggested in above mentioned thread) would be sound sources that could be placed on a specific location on a map, which probably means they would be more fitted for ambient type sounds. However, how about "attachable" sounds? For example:
- Being able to attach/link sound effects to an object/prop and its different states, for things like torches, chests or doors. For example a torch being lit (sound 1), the torch burning steadily (sound 2) and the torch being put out (sound 3), same for opening and closing doors/chests and interacting with other objects.
- Being able to attach/link sound effects to characters and their various states and weapons used, their attacks and spells. For example things like walking (footstep sounds), weapon attack sound effects (swords, arrows etc), missed attacks and being hit by an attack, as well as death and spell sound effects.
- For ease of use, distribution and as a possible store item, sound effects could be collected into "sound effect packs". For example, a "human spell caster" sound effect pack, an "orc fighter" one, each containing a relevant selection of sound effects for the various states or weapons/spells of a specific character or character type.
Again, sorry if this is already planned or already has been mentioned and I just missed it. If not, then I think it could be a cool addition to the tool and it could also possibly add a new dimension to the gameplay and the creation aspect as well, as "sound effect packs" could be something the more audio inclined persons would be able to contribute with and perhaps even sell on the store as well.
Cheers
